I am happy to announce the 3rd beta release of Zenlive 7.2 !
This version is featuring the latest kernel 3.2.5 with support for aufs
3.2, bootsplash and bfs based on the latest Zenwalk snapshot development
version and the latest slackware-live-scripts 0.3.6 framework
(http://slackware-live.tuxfamily.org).

For the first time ZenLive (even without any extra content) will not fit
on on a single 700 MB CD-R anymore, but since DVD is a common media and
due to the extra space that lets us include some additional goodies, not
part of the Zenwalk Standard Edition, it has been decided to provide DVD
ISO files only.

Well, what do we have under the hood:

- New xz compression squashfs 4.0 (now in vanilla kernel)

- All new simple Installer and Live-scripts

- On-the-fly live optional live module activation during the running
live session, thanks to aufs3 and a loader script

- Persistent changes feature is now supported, even over network shares!
(Need some more testers)

- Besides Standard Zenwalk package set, ZenLive provides some additional
packages for more functionality

- Additional language packs & full Japanese language input support
(should work for Korean and Chinese languages too)

- Fluxbox window manager and related apps now packaged together with the
standard release as an alternative to Xfce4

- nouveau driver included in kernel 3.2.5 is now enabled by default,
providing a _good_ 3D acceleration performance and support for a wide
range of NVidia Cards (no need to ship the proprietary driver anymore )

- Broadcom wifi "WL" proprietary driver is shipped with this release as
optional live module

- New bootsplash theme

- Updated ZenLive Manual addressing the changes introduced by switching
to Slackware-live-scripts

My honest thanks goes to the Zenwalk Main Dev-Team, Pat and the
Slackware Crew and of course Frank Endres the developer of the
sophisticated Slackware-Live-scripts and all the open source community.
Without the hard work and effort of you all, ZenLive wouldn't have been
possible!

Get ZenLive 7.3 Beta from here:

http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-accounts/zenwalkuser/zenlive/zenlive-7.2-dvd.iso
http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-accounts/zenwalkuser/zenlive/zenlive-7.2-dvd.md5

Please note, that this is still a beta version subject to changes,
especially since stable Zenwalk 7.2 hasn't been officially released yet.
You can help finalizing by testing and bug reporting.

Thanks and have fun!

Sebastian Reisse

[Update: 31/May/2012]
I have polished the beta2 a bit taking all the feedback I got into account. It also has all the latest updates from snapshot.
This one will hopefully the last beta before the final release.
You can get it from the link above.

[Update: 14/April/2012]
An updated build is now available for testing.
We are close to finalize this release. ;)

Zenwalk Live version (ZenLive) 7.0 RC1 is available for testing!

We are happy to announce the long awaited Zenwalk Live 7.0 RC1, which will
allow more people to try out Zenwalk without having to install it first.

Zenwalk Live 7.0 is based on the sophisticated Slackware-Live-Scripts,
being the first distribution using the brand new not yet
official released version 0.3.3

Zenwalk Live consists of standard Zenwalk ISO packages following the main
Zenwalk release with the latest XFCE desktop and applications
and is shipped with a new artwork theme, additional localization
packages for icecat/icedove and the nvidia proprietary driver.

It also comes with full support for inputing and displaying Japanese.

You'll get the latest stable version software incl. the most recent
patches and bugfixes that have been released until now.

It comes equipped with a "live" kernel patched to support aufs2,
lzma compressed squashfs 4.0, bfs-scheduler and bootsplash.

With ZenLive 7.0 the "persistent changes" feature is back.
Also with this release local hard disc drives can now be mounted as
normal user whitout the need of suing to root.

It's possible to install the running Live-system to the hard disc drive
or even transfer the live-CD into a bootable USB stick by using the
included installer scripts.

Supported boot parameters for ZenLive 7.0 RC1 are:
- copy2ram=yes (to copy live-environment into the RAM and run from there)
- exclude=MODULE_NAME.lzm (to exclude a non optional module from beeing
loaded)
- home=PATH_TO_STORAGE (to store persistent changes onto a local drive or
file)
- include=nvidia-new-driver.lzm (to load optional nvidia-driver module)
- keymap=xx (to use this keyboard layout)
- locale=xx.UTF-8 (to use this language)
- roopw=PASSWORD (to set individual root password and enabling root access)
- runlevel=x (to boot into Runlevel x instead of standard RL4 with Xorg)
- sli=yes|no (to have the installer script available/unavailable during
the live session)
- useswap=yes|no (to enable or disable the usage of local swap
partition/file if found on the system)

_____________________________________

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In order to improve security and due to the fact that people was
complaining about the old default root password
the root account is now *disabled* per default for the graphical boot
options.
Users are required to utilize the new introduced "rootpw=" boot parameter
(without the quotes) to setup their individual
root password. This is necessary if you would like to install the live
cd or otherwise need access to features that are restricted to root only.
However the old root password (ZenLive) is still available when choosing
"text mode" boot option, but can be overridden by the rootpw= parameter
if necessary.
The default unprivileged user account also has been changed to
"liveuser" (instead of "one") with an empty password.

Please read ABOUT in the root of the live-CD for more information.

This is the first release candidate, all known issues since last beta
should have been fixed.

Download link :

http://zenwalk.pinguix.com/user-accounts/zenwalkuser/zenlive/zenlive-7.0_rc1.iso
http://zen-repo.meticul.eu/i486/zenwalk-live-7.0/ISO/zenlive-7.0_rc1.iso
http://ftp.nux.ipb.pt/pub/dists/zenwalk/i486/zenwalk-live-7.0/ISO/zenlive-7.0_rc1.iso
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/zenwalk/i486/zenwalk-live-7.0/ISO/zenlive-7.0_rc1.iso

Please help testing and finalizing ZenLive 7.0!

Have fun.

Sebastian Reisse
