The latest version of ZenLive, the Zenwalk Gnu/Linux LiveCD, is now available.
ZenLive-4.2 is based on Zenwalk Gnu/Linux version 4.2 and compliments the speed and stability you've come to expect from Zenwalk. At the heart of this new release you will find the Linux kernel version 2.6.18.6 & Xorg-7.1.1 along with new features and hundreds of updated packages. As always ZenLive includes Gparted and the latest Zenwalk tools, the latest squashfs, aufs and Linux-Live scripts modified to present a more user friendly environment as well as including all the necessary tools to allow users to fully customize it.
Some of the new features include the tools Zenpanel which is Zenwalk's new system configuration panel that makes customizing your Linux system easy. Desktop enhancements include a new panel layout and RSS feed reader that were added to XFCE among other nice enhancements such as an original Tango derived Icon theme. Howl has been replaced with the more modern and supported Avahi zeroconf subsystem. Fam has been replaced with Gamin resulting in noticeable speed increases to file and directory monitoring, making changes to files and viewing of large directories faster then ever. The Thunar filemanager is completed by the Search4files file search tool which we chose for it's simplicity.
Mplayer multimedia system replaces Gxine and comes both with Theora support as well as a ready to use Firefox plugin. The Mplayer version included in Zenwalk includes patches created by Zenwalk to enhance the GTK2 GUI and add session support. Audacious (the XMMS like music player) now also comes with a Mplayer plugin so that you can even use Audacious as a universal yet simple media player.
If you are a gamer you will be pleased to know that this version includes new games not included in any previous versions of ZenLive. The games in ZenLive-4.2 include Ceferino Hazańa, Foobillard, Frozen Bubble 2, Lbreakout 2, Mega Mario, Supertux & Wormux.
Something that you will find unique in ZenLive-4.2 is that fact that it includes all of the necessary libraries and applications to develop and compile software. That's something that many or most live cds are missing. Python has been upgraded to version 2.5 to bring new features and stability to the overall system.
ZenLive-4.2 is a ultra-modern LiveCD with emphasis on multimedia, gaming, networking, system tools and development. It is a portable & customizable Zenwalk Gnu/Linux system for everyone, anywhere. We hope that you will enjoy this new release as much as we enjoyed creating it.
